Badfinger was a pop/rock (or "power pop") band that orginated in mid-60s pop bands around Swansea, Wales. Adopting the name Badfinger in 1969, the band was touted as the 'heir apparent' to The Beatles, in part because of their close working relationship with the "Fab Four." Badfinger's meteoric rise and demise (marked by the suicides of founder-member and leader Peter Ham on 24 April 1975, and later of band-member Tom Evans on November 19, 1983) remains a cautionary tale for the rock music industry. An original video for Badfingers 1974 song, Got to Get Out of Here, released on their LP Wish You Were Here. Wish You Were Here received positive reviews in Rolling Stone magazine upon its release and is sometimes considered to be the bands best work. However, it was pulled out of record stores in 1975, seven weeks after release because of a lawsuit between Warner Bros. music publishing and Badfingers management. Badfingers Manager, Stan Polley, had been screwing Badfinger out of money their whole careers. Amidst hit records and support from The Beatles (Badfinger was originally signed by Apple Records, a label founded by The Beatles), Badfinger was broke, and lived together with their wives in the same house for a long period of time. Frustration created by Poll...
Track 2 from their comeback album Airwaves released in 1979 copyright Elektra Records. Badfingers story is one of the most tragic in rock history. They were the first band signed to the Beatles label, Apple Records. Paul McCartney wrote and produced their first hit Come And Get It which was hugely successful, as were subsequent songs written by Pete Ham & Tom Evans. They were also the first victims when Apple Records was dissolved and embroiled in lawsuits. Immediately after signing with Apple, they sought management and direction from an unscrupulous American lawyer who stole their money, and it would result in the loss of two of the finest songwriters the world has ever known. Pete Ham hung himself in 1975 when the band was destitute after not being paid any royalt...

Heres an absolute gem from Badfingers highly underrated album Ass. Constitution is a song penned by Joey Molland, but the real star on this track is Pete Ham. His lead guitar here is simply breathtaking and unlike anything Ive ever heard before in music. His lead guitar drives the verses of the song, and he plays two blistering solos that would make Jimi Hendrix admit defeat. Its too bad the second solo (during the songs outro) was faded out and we dont get to hear it all. I was shocked that no one else had uploading this song on YouTube. Its simply a brilliant song. I always considered it Badfingers version of Helter Skelter, or better put, what Helter Skelter could have been if only the Beatles could play guitar! Give Molland credit for his great rhythm guitar he...

[Lyrics Badfinger - Turn Around] As weve turned these empty pages I have seen the sweat and pain Do we have to waste these ages Going through it all over again? Lets forget all the dreams we had Play your dreams of yesterday When will we ever learn? When will we turn around? When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn? All thats left now is to keep on hoping We can change the dice thats cast I remember how they laughed then But I knew it wouldnt last Ive tried so hard to close my eyes But I just cant close my mind When will we ever learn? When will we turn around? When will we ever learn? When will we ever learn? Maybe Tomorrow was the only album released by Badfinger under the name The Iveys. It was issued in 1969 on the Apple label in Japan, West Germany and Italy. Although the album was scheduled to be released worldwide, the release in the US and UK at that time was halted without explanation. Many reasons for halting the album have been suggested by the band and Apple employees, but the most common theory in that Apples newly hired president, Allen Klein, stopped all non-Beatle releases on Apple until he could examine the companys finances, which were in disarray at the time. A majority of the albums songs were later issued as Badfinger songs on the Badfinger album Magic Christian Music.Mrs Jonesfirst appeared in the 1992 copy of the album as a bonus track....

Song: Mean Mean Jemima Artist: Badfinger Album: No Dice Year: 1970 LYRICS: Well shes a brown-eyed lady and I couldnt give her an answer She took all I give her and all she ever wanted is more And Id have to admit that Im not just a born romancer Wholl taking it easy, feel like I did before Chorus: Mean, mean Jemima Wont you come back, wont you come back home? Mean, mean Jemima Wont you come back, wont you come back home? Im sitting here thinking of nothing but matches and candles She took all I give her and all she ever wanted is more And Id have to admit she was too much for me to handle Wholl taking it easy, Im feeling like I did before Chorus Shes a brown-eyed lady and I couldnt give her an answer She took all I give her and all she ever wanted is more [gui...
Ass is the fourth and last album released on Apple Records by power pop band Badfinger. The opening track, Apple of My Eye, refers to the band leaving the label to begin its new contract with Warner Brothers Records. The cover artwork (showing a donkey chasing a distant carrot) alludes to Badfingers feelings that they had been misled by Apple over the years. The cover was painted by Grammy Award winning artist Peter Corriston who would later create famous album covers for Led Zeppelin (Physical Graffiti) and The Rolling Stones (Some Girls, Tattoo You)....
Track 8 from their eighth and final album Say No More released in 1981 copyright Radio Records. This album followed Airwaves and was their second attempt at a comeback to their previous worldwide success. That earlier success had been affected by bad band decisions, which led to corrupt management and financial hardships for the band from unpaid royalties. This led to Pete Ham taking his own life in 1975. After the release of this album, the band dissolved, and the two main songwriters, Joey Molland & Tom Evans formed rival touring bands, both using the name Badfinger. This caused new conflict between the remaining members, and combined with the ongoing financial problems, led to Tom Evans suicide in 1983. Recorded from the original vinyl. Written by drummer Mike Gibbins - who also features here on lead vocals. This song was recorded in Jan/Feb 1971 for the ill-fated follow up album to No Dice. The album remains unreleased to this day (although some tracks were re-recorded for Straight Up some months later). Mike went on to write & sing some more songs for Badfinger & even played some guitar & keyboards on their 73 & 74 albums. Bad finger were a very talented band with 4 great songwriters & singers - although Pete Ham was the shining light. Loving You is very hard to find on CD - only appearing briefly in 1992 as a bonus track. All credit goes to Badfinger....

Ass peaked at number 122 on the Billboard 200 in the US. The single Apple of My Eye only peaked at number 102 on Billboard s Bubbling Under chart in America. The release of Ass caused the bands first album for Warner Bros. to be delayed. After the album was deleted from the Apple catalog a large number of heavily discounted copies appeared in cut-out bins at US record stores during the 1970s. The original CD version released in the 1990s is now rare because it was re-released only in a few countries (UK, Canada and Japan) for a limited period. The album was remastered and re-released in 2010. A few weeks prior to the 1990s CD release a few Abbey Road Studios mastered C90 cassettes of Ass were distributed to a handful of A & R agents. It appears from the track l...

Ass enjoys many not-so-enviable distinctions in the tragic personal histories of Badfinger, and one very enviable distinction - its a disjointed but near-great album in which the band was moving away from its trademark pop syrup, mixing in just enough hard rock vinegar to avoid the sticky-sweet overdoses in their better-known, earlier work for Apple Records. But at the same time its not so different that you cant hear what made albums like No Dice and Straight Up great. It all adds up to a heartbreaking portrait of how a criminally overlooked band was struggling to cut through loads of personal trauma, financial problems, and outright skullduggery to express their considerable talents as time was running out for them. ~ Don Jacobson, Beachwood Reporter...

[Lyrics Badfinger - Friends Are Hard to Find] [Lyrics Badfinger - Fisherman] Between the darkness and the light. As the stars fade out of sight I can hear his shiny boots fall on the sand With a basket at his side. And the morning full of pride You can see him cast his line with skillful hands Hey hey, fisherman. Wish you luck thats all I can Hey hey, fisherman. Forget the world if thats your plan As the morning turns to noon. Hes content to sit and croon And he lights his twisted pipe and settles down Onward goes the time, as he tries new baited line So he digs another worm up from the ground Hey hey, fisherman, wish you luck thats all I can Hey hey, fisherman, forget the world if thats your plan Tween the nightness and the light, the line is taut, he has a bite ...
